History
Softball South Africa (SSA) was established in 1994 after the unity talks that started in 1991 and led to the amalgamation of three formally racially based federations or associations. The federations or associations that participated at the unity talks were: South African Softball Association (SASA) representing the White community of softballers, South African Softball Federation (SASF) representing the Black community of softballers, and South African Softball Congress (SACOS) representing the Coloured community of softballers.
SSA is affiliated with the world governing body World Baseball Softball Confederation Softball Division and it is responsible for the administration of Men’s and Women’s softball teams. SSA is also affiliated with the African governing body African Baseball Softball Association.
SSA is a National body in good standing and recognised by the National Olympic Committee namely SASCOC and the National Department of Sport and Recreation.
SSA participated in many World Championship tournaments organised by its former mother body International Softball Federation (ISF).
